Detailed Description Dom Pedro de Almeida Portugal left for Mozambique handing over the Government to Dom Antonio Brandao, the archbishop and Antonio Paes de Sande, who had been names in the patent of succession, together with the Chancellor Francisco Cabral de Almeida who was no more by then. On the death of the Archbishop in July 1679 Antonio held the government alone. He continued to act as Governor until succeeded by Francisco de Tavora in 1681.
