Brief Description It is a stringed musical instrument. The resonator of the instrument is made of wood with a peacock motif and covered with parchment. A wooden neck is attached to the resonator, decorated with designed ivory pieces. A separate wooden piece decorated with ivory and provided with twenty-one ivory pegs is parallely attached to the neck of the instrument. Twenty-one iron strings are wound around the pegs. Five ivory pegs, decorated with peacock motif are present on the headstock. In 1875 when His Royal Highness Prince of Wales (Edward VII) visited Calcutta, a Bengali band was formed using the collection of musical instruments of Raja Sir Sourindro Mohun Tagore and those instruments were donated next year (1876) to the Indian Museum. Mayuri Vina or Taus is one of them.
