Brief Description This is a stringed necklace made of Pema Raka (carnelian) beads. The word Pema Raka comes from the Sanskrit word "padma" meaning lotus and "rakta" meaning red or blood, translating to blood lotus or red lotus. These red-orangish beads are considered sacred and are believed to ward off illness and evil spirits, most often made into prayer malas (rosary).
