A number of terracotta horned masks were found at
Mohenjodaro. All of them were made from moulds. These are
hollow at the back with holes at the edges on each side for
tying. They have slanting, carefully touched-up, eyes.
Significantly, they show traces of chocolate colour slip.
The mask shown here may have served to decorate some wooden
structure, or perhaps fastened to the doors or walls of a
house, to avert ill-luck.
