Brief Description In this painting by Gaganendranath Tagore we see a strong influence of Cubist art practice. In 1923-28 he experimented with cubism, producing a series of pictures filled with blended geometric forms. In this painting, we see the moonlight playing a dual role: forming a halo around the 'fairy', and in creating multiple planar surfaces in black and white, typical of the cubist technique of faceted visual imagery. The artist's exposure to the art practices all around the world helped him to create a distinctly original style of painting.
