(The school building situated at Bhaikhala, now houses the Main Hospital of Central Railways which has been named as Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Memorial Hospital). Subhedar Ramji Sakpal left Satara and came to Mumbai so that his children would obtain good education (November- December 1904). He lived in Dabak Chawl (Elphinstone Road) with his family.
Later in 1912, the Subedar shifted residence to the BIT Chawl, Poibawdi, Parel, Mumbai. He secured Bhimrao an admission in the Elphinstone High School on 3 Januray 1905, in the ninth standard.
Bhimrao passed he matriculation examination from this school in 1907.He was the first Untouchable to pass this examination.
