Dr. Ambedkar and his associates visited the Bhima-Koregaon Vijayastambha on the banks of the river Bhima, near Pune, on 1 January 1927. In the war between the Peshwas and the British forces in 1818, the Peshwas were defeated. A large number of Mahar soldiers fought for the British forces and many lost their lives. The Vijaystambha was erected by the British Government to commemorate these valiant soldiers. In the photograph with Dr. Ambedkar, First Row(L to R):S. F. Barathe, B. J. Bhosale, S. B. Bhandare, J.
