On Feb. 3rd 1928 when the Simon commission came to India, it met with large-scale rejection. At this time, on 23rd October 1928 Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar lent his support to the commission and put forth two memoranda of his demands before the Commission regarding the issues of the depressed classes and his demands for their upliftment. His first demand was that they be considered independently as a minority group and secondly, that they be given greater political rights.
This was the first step take by Dr. Babasaheb towards creating awareness about issues concerning the downtrodden and depressed class. In the above picture, Dr. Ambedkar is seen with members of Simon Commission, Sir Simon is seen on the right of Dr. Ambedkar.
