Brief Description

The second round-table conference was held in London September 7, 1931 under the chairmanship of the British Prime Minister (Ramsay Macdonald). This conference was attended by such eminent people as Gandhiji, Pandit MadanMohan Malviya, Barrister M.R. Jaykar and Dr. Ambedkar. Dr. Ambedkar’s memoranda were tendered before the gathering, and this was considered to be a vital step in resolving the anguish of the depressed classes.

The memoranda called for the fulfillment of the following issues: 1) Equal Citizenship 2) Unconditional use of equal rights. 3) Protection from discrimination. 4) Adequate representation in the law-making council 5) Reservations in Government jobs 6) The right to question discrimination and negligence in the upliftment of the depressed classes 7) Special bodies to take care of the protection and upliftment of the depressed classes. 8) Adequate representation in the cabinet.
