Brief Description
A stirrup handled vessel showing a contorted human face with
animals in the reverse side in relief.
Detailed Description
This is a rare Moche vessel with decorations on both sides. The front side has a depiction of a distorted face probably showing some disease. Ease and disease have an extended iconography in the Mochica Pottery.
In this particular vessel various animals are depicted both in relief and painted form on the other side. The animals are incorporated together interestingly to fill up every single space on the vessel.
The vessel seeming to have a spout with a broken handle poses as an interesting study in itself as it intricately portrays man and nature co-existence in a single configuration.
