This painting depicts four figures listening to a male figure,
possibly telling a story. The figures are situated on a hilly
road
side. In the background we can see the mountain peaks. The
painting shows a strong influence of the Japanese wash technique.
Gaganendranath Tagore's landscapes are exceptionally emotive, in
that they create a feeling of what the artist attempts to
express. His earliest sketches and landscapes date back to 1905.
Inspired by Japanese artist Yokoyama Taikan, Gaganendranath's
landscapes achieve the right blend of capturing Bengal's vast
landscapes and romanticizing them.
Gaganendranath's interest in life and later art, was limited to
and conditioned by his love for everything swadeshi (native).
