Born in Goa, Laxman Pai graduated at the Sir J. J. School of Art, Mumbai. Infatuated by the natural beauty of his surroundings in all their form and glory, Pai's canvases narrate the interplay of the human characters that fit harmoniously in the natural habitat. His works are mostly graphical and representation of human forms especially the sensual female forms being prominent in his narratives, gracefully blending with the nature. His works are spiritual impressions with bold and vibrant hues that have become characteristic of his art.

The artist was conferred the prestigious Padma Shri by the government of India.
