Brief Description
Lime Stone - Dome slab - Siddhartha sees a corpse while riding a
horse. Wailing persons are seen around the corpse. Mended.
Detailed Description
Mutilated dome-slab of a stupa showing Buddha witnessing four
messengers corresponding to the three considerations viz.
the old man, the sick man, the corpse and the monk. The
extant portion shows a row of animals moving towards right as
the top border. The upper, better preserved panels depicts
Siddhartha witnessing the procession of a corpse while riding
a horse. Wailing persons are seen around the corpse. This
panel is a good example of the artists capability to
handling two different compositional groups and their spatial
arraignment. The other three viz. An old man, a diseased man
and the ascetic are probably shown in the lower panel of
which the available portion presents the ascetic on the left
side.
