Brief Description

Lieutenant Colonel James Achilles Kirkpatrick (1764-1805) After serving in the Madras army from 1780, Kirkpatrick joined his brother William at Hyderabad in 1795 as his assistant, and succeeded him as Resident two years later. He negotiated several treaties with the Nizam, and brought the Nizam's contingent into the field against Tipu in 1799. He died in 1805, whilst on a visit to Calcutta, and a monument to his memory was erected in St. John's Church.
