Emperor Jehangir, surnamed Nur-uddin Muhammad was the eldest son of the emperor Akbar, the Great was born in the village of Sikri on Wednesday the 31st august 1569 was named Mirza Salim. His mother who receive the title of Marian Zamman was the daughter of Raja Bihari Malkachwaha. After the death of his father which took place on 16-10-1605, he succeeded by assuming the title of Nur-ud-din Muhammad Jehangir. He reigned 22 lunar years, 8 months & 15 days, died in camp on sunday 28-10-1627, on his way to Lahore from Kashmir aged 59 lunar years 11 months and 12 days 7 was entered in the suburbs of Lahore in the garden of his favourite wife Nur Jahan Begum. He was succeeded by his son Mirza Khurram who took the title of Shah Jahan.
