Brief Description

Governor-General and Commander-in-Chief in 1813-23. Francis Rawdon Hastings, Earl of Moira, was appointed to succeed Lord Minto in India in 1823. His administration covered the period of the Nepal War of 1814-16 (after which he was created Marques of Hastings) and the Pindari War of 1817-18, and carried on the policy of Lord Wellesley.

Full-length standing figure in court dress with drapery and left foot advanced. Face turned full to spectator. the right hand grasps a scroll while the left holds the hilt of sword.the statue was subscribed by the British inhabitants of Calcutta and prior to its removal to its present position in 1924, it stood in the south porch of the Dalhousie Institute.
