Brief Description

Pandit Shibnath Shastri (1847-1919) Educated at Sanskrit Collegiate School and Sanskrit College, Calcutta. He took his Master's Degree in Sanskrit. He edited the 'Soma- Prakash' (1873-74). Later he joined South Suburban English School as Headmaster and thereafter as Sanskrit teacher of Hare School. He resigned from Government service in 1878 so as to devote himself whole-heartedly to the work of social reform, literary pursuits and propagation of religion. He visited England in April, 1888.

A towering figure among the Brahmo Progressives, a poet, an author, a journalist and a reformer, Sibanath left his mark indelibly impressed on renascent Bengal.
