Brief Description

Lord Robert Clive (1725-74) Full-Length standing figure. Clean shaved face. Head with semi- natural wig with 'butterfly' terminal, touching the shoulders and side-curls covering upper portion of the ears. In military uniform consisting of narrow-cuffed coat, vest with full sleeves and frilled cuffs, kerchief on the neck, knee breeches, high boots and hoses. A cap is seen on the left shoulder. His right hand holds a half open scroll.

The left hand rests on the hilt of his sword touching the ground. The figure portrays a lively, energetic attitude. The left foot is advanced. The face, in particular, reveals dignity, strength and confidence.

Detailed Description

Twice Governor of Fort-William in Bengal,1758-60 and 1765-67,generally regarded as the founder of the British dominion in India.

This is a replica of the Bronze statue that stands in King Charles Street,London. Both statues as well as a portrait medallion in Westminister Abbey were erected by a fund raised by Lord Curzon in 1909.
