Brief Description
After distinguishing himself in the Peninsular War, Sir Hugh Gough commanded the Mysore division of the Madras army from 1837-1841, when he went to china to superintend the operations there. He became Commander-in-chief in India in August 1843 and commanded throughout the Sikh Wars, retiring in May 1849.
