Abanindranath Tagore (1871-1951) was the founder of Bengal School of Art, which creates the first modernist vibrations in twentieth century India. He created a new visual language moored deeply in the Swadeshi ideals. His art was idyllic, mystical, highly profound and deeply rooted to the sentiments of his time. He was also a fine writer.
